A heavenly match
A sexy gay couple is discovering romance, while Dave & Liza head to divorce court

Friday, January 16, 2004

Yes, boys and girls, the rumors apparently are true. Openly gay “Will & Grace” co-creator MAX MUTCHNICK and NATE BERKUS, the popular interior design man featured on OPRAH WINFREY’s show, are an item.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the two were seen flitting about Chi-town during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and they spent a cozy night at the ritzy Peninsula Hotel.

“It’s a match made in gay heaven,” a source close to the couple told the New York Post gossip column Page Six.

But at this point, no one is saying whether anyone plans to relocate. Berkus is based in Chicago, where Oprah’s show is filmed, and Mutchnick works in California.

TV Guide describes Berkus, a self-taught interior designer who suggests home makeovers on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” as “a hunk with a hammer,” in its Jan. 10 edition. He also was named one of People magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive.”

While Dish is happy for this high-profile couple, she is sad that these attractive (and wealthy) men are off the market. If they do move in together, just imagine how fabulous their house will be!

Getting uglier

LIZA MINNELLI does not take being stood up well, and that’s just what happened on Jan. 7 when her soon-to-be-ex DAVID GEST failed to appear before a New York City judge to discuss their divorce and civil suits, according to the New York Post.

Gest’s divorce attorney, Raoul Felder, told the judge that his client is in bad shape due to the alcohol-induced beatings Minnelli allegedly inflicted on him when they were married.

Minnelli’s lawyer, Fredrick Seigel (no, sweetie, not the Fred Seigel of the fashion store fame in Los Angeles), said that he had a videotape of a concert Gest hosted on New Year’s Eve.

Felder explained that Gest “had to have 20 injections in his head” on the day of the hearing. (He didn’t say whether or not that included any Botox.)
While both lawyers said the case should be simple because of the couple’s prenuptial agreement, they argued about all sorts of personal belongings. At one point, Felder accused Minnelli of hiding a “certain” medical condition from Gest at the time of their marriage in March 2002.

After discussing this with the parties behind closed doors, the judge said Felder was not to bring up the matter again. Neither lawyer would tell the Post what the condition was.

Minnelli, however, did tell the court that she was feeling well and even asked a courtroom artist to “make me look pretty” in sketches at the hearing.
A diva ’til the end.

Stryking gold
Notoriously well-endowed gay porn star JEFF STRYKER was inducted into the Hustler Hollywood Porn Walk of Fame on January 15, along with Sharon Mitchell, his female counterpart in the film industry.

Stryker, who at one point had the best-selling gay and straight adult video on the market, has been a gay porn legend for years. Now his name and hands will be displayed in front of the Hustler store on Los Angeles’s Sunset Strip.

While it’s nice for Stryker to have such recognition, wouldn’t it be fitting if there were an imprint of something other than his hands on display?

The induction ceremony, at 8920 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, also honored Mitchell, a certified HIV and chemical dependency counselor and former adult film actress. She started the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, in part, to test adult film performers and sex workers for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
