rented a hotel room for the day of the tour so that their
adopted son, now 2, wouldn’t be underfoot.
Purchased in 2001 (a year before the baby came along), the 1914 house is the
couple’s first home together. The renovations were recently finished.
The spectacular circular stained glass window in the front door previews the
bright pastel colors that are found throughout most of the house.
“We both like clean, modern lines but he likes earth tones and I like
whites. As a compromise, we did pastels,” Imirowicz says, adding that
the house’s design also prompted some changes. “We didn’t
want to go 100 percent ultra-modern. We wanted it to be somewhat historic, but
not too dark and choppy like the Victorians liked.”
The house is a delicious blend of the two styles, and the smell of fresh-baked
Christmas cookies only added to its mouth-watering appeal.
Baby-proofing is a necessity that is incorporated without being intrusive.
Imirowicz and Heath even hired an outside firm to make sure their son would
be safe in the house, without destroying any of the original fixtures, including
the gorgeous original staircase that spirals through the building’s three
floors.
