lawsuit and said he thinks the various challenges to “Don’t
Ask, Don’t Tell” are all worthwhile endeavors.
He added that gay and lesbian service members are “blessed” to
have many organizations concerned about their willingness to serve and defend
the country.
He said the Pentagon has one more week to respond to the Log Cabin suit.
The government has consistently argued that the “Don’t Ask, Don’t
Tell” policy, among other things, is crucial to preserving “unit
cohesion” for military troops and thus is needed to maintain national
security.
However Meekins said he has yet to see any “credible evidence”
that the presence of openly gay service members erodes unit cohesion.
