Vez, said he planned to inform the board about a GLAA proposal to change the regulations. Under GLAA’s proposal, city agencies would ignore and possibly take legal action against citizens who file three or more complaints against a business that are found to be unsubstantiated.
The ABC Board called the hearing to consider three issues: a request by Cada Vez to extend its operating hours to the city’s legal closing times of 2 a.m. during the week and 3 a.m. on weekends; and a second request changing the current terms of its license that ban the restaurant from offering rock and hip hop music.
The third issue before the hearing was the question of whether the ABC Board should renew the Cada Vez liquor license based on a challenge of the license filed by the Dupont Circle ANC, the Dupont Circle Citizens Association and the ad hoc citizens groups.
The hearing lasted until late Wednesday night and is scheduled to continue next Wednesday, Oct. 19, with a final decision expected sometime in December.
Also scheduled to testify at the hearing was Earline Budd, on behalf of the local groups Transgender Health & Empowerment and Us Helping Us. Budd said Cada Vez has hosted fund-raisers for the two groups.
“I came to support them today because of their reaching out to the non-profit sector of the community,” Budd said.
