Re: “Dueling daytime divas” (Action Alert, Dec. 1)

Substitute Kid Rock, Eminem, Tommy Lee, R. Kelly, Kanye West or Ice Cube (all very well known for their heterosexuality) for Clay Aiken and I’m pretty sure Kelly Ripa would have had almost an identical reaction had any of them put his hand over her mouth. I think Rosie O’Donnell went looking to make something out of nothing.

We all love Rosie, but she went too far in criticizing Kelly Ripa on “The View.” Her remark to Clay Aiken was innocent and Rosie totally overreacted in the interest of generating publicity. Good for Rosie for not hiding or downplaying her sexual orientation anymore (like Ellen), but in this instance she was wrong and owes Ripa an apology.

Did anyone stop to think that what Rosie O’Donnell really did was to out Clay Aiken? Aiken has denied being gay and even refused to tell Diane Sawyer if he’s gay after being busted in a gay online chat room. He’s the one who should be mad, not Kelly Ripa.

Wow, what a clever way for Rosie to out Clay! And most people didn’t even catch it! Keep up the good work, girl, and out all those closet cases. I guess Rosie’s feeling guilty and making up for lost time considering all those years she spent pretending to be smitten with Tom Cruise. Oh well, better late than never.

Three cheers for
a cool mom

Re: “Guess who’s not coming to dinner” (editorial by Steve Koval, Dec. 1)

Good for your Mom for handling it her way. You are blessed by the universe!

Miss Diana Ross
deserves respect

Re: “A sour love note” (music review by Joey DiGuglielmo, Dec. 1)

Your review of Diana Ross’ new CD is totally off base I suggest you give it another listen. Miss Ross continues to perform and wins great reviews for it, but somehow you ignored all that. She deserves respect for her legendary career and her longtime support for gay rights.

There’s still time
to impeach Romney

Re: “High court justice holds hearing on Romney gay marriage complaint” (washingtonblade.com, Nov. 30)

Mitt Romney should have been impeached as governor of the state for his unethical use of office to promote a right-wing agenda to fuel his presidential aspirations at the expense of the state! This shameful crusade of his to outlaw gay marriage especially when he will soon leave the state is disgusting. It’s no longer his business. This ballot initiative is nothing but a spiteful sham. It allows existing gay marriages prior to the vote to remain valid while new ones would be prohibited. Thus, it not only discriminates between hetero and gay couples but also would discriminate between gay couples. The Supreme Court has clearly stated that laws cannot be passed that discriminate between classes of people. Thus, any victory if this ever comes to a vote would be only a symbolic one. Some gay marriages would still be legal and thus their precious definition of marriage will not be exclusively reserved for heterosexuals in practice just in theory!

N.J. conservatives
are homophobes

Re: “Conservatives in N.J. offer alternative to gay marriage” (washingtonblade.com, Nov. 28)

The fact that conservatives in New Jersey say that they would vigorously oppose civil unions as a compromise to the using the word “marriage” proves that this battle is not about restricting the use of a word to hetero couples but over preventing the legal recognition of gay relationships in any form. If such people insist on being so callous and pigheaded then we should not be concerned about their motivations or beliefs either. A just cause needs to make no excuses or allowances when faced with such shameful unfairness.
