last summer, delivered a respectful sermon and eulogy during Johnson’s funeral service, Bolling said.
However, she said Wilson upset her family by refusing to allow the family to distribute a printed program for the service inside the church. The program included several photos of Johnson with her arms around her girlfriend, which Wilson and other Union Temple officials said were inappropriate for a church, Bolling said.
She said she and members of her family also prepared a slide show presentation for the service that included photos of Johnson’s life, from childhood to recent years. Some photos included Johnson kissing her girlfriend and poses in nightclubs and other lesbian meeting places.
She said all were similar to the type of photos commonly used in funeral services of straight people and their spouses. To her dismay, Bolling said, church officials removed all but about five or six of the 100 or more photos the family had carefully assembled for the slide presentation.
“I just wanted to bury my child as she was,” Bolling said. “They are not God. If I have no problem with my child’s lifestyle, why should they?”
Wilson did not return a call seeking comment.
