baffling.
Offstage, Epperson, a longtime professional ballet accompanist before Lypsinka took off financially, is a low-key fellow with highbrow taste.
“Am I the only drag performer who’s ever read Thomas Hardy, Jane Austen, and ‘The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich’? I’m fairly certain that Charles Busch is equally well-read, but he can’t sit down at the piano and play a Chopin waltz like I can.”
The man behind Lypsinka wants people to know that he goes to bed at 10, rises early, takes long walks and compulsively watches old movies.
“Just as I’m not the stereotypical messy drag queen,” explains Epperson, “my act is unique. For everyone, straight or gay, it’s something more than they ever thought it was going to be.”
