“One possible explanation is the burglary defendants know something about another case and are working with police and the government on that case,” Sanders said. “So the government may want to hold the burglary case over their heads to obtain testimony in the other case, whatever that other case is.”

Sanders said the other case might be the Robert Wone murder or possibly an unrelated case. He noted that court records show that Collins has a history of prior arrests for drug related offenses.

Wone, 32, was married and lived in Oakton, Va. Friends and family members said he was a longtime friend of Joseph Price from their attendance at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Friends said he had been spending the night at the Swann Street house after working late at his office downtown.

Joseph Price and his domestic partner, Victory Zaborsky, and their housemate, Dylan Ward, told police they believed an intruder murdered Wone after entering the house through a rear door while the three were asleep in their respective bedrooms. Police have expressed skepticism over the men’s claim that an intruder killed Wone, and the commander of the police homicide squad has said he believes the men are withholding information about the incident.

Wone was stabbed twice in the chest and once in the abdomen with a butcher knife taken from the kitchen of the Swann Street house, police said.

Investigators stated in another affidavit filed in court that they found evidence that someone tampered with the crime scene by cleaning blood stains near where Wone was attacked prior to the arrival of police and paramedics, who reported finding Wone unconscious and without any sign of life.

Joseph Price, Zaborsky and Ward have released statements through their lawyers saying they have cooperated with investigators and describing as unfair and unfounded claims by police that they were withholding information about the case.
