The D.C. police department’s Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit was recently involved in the following cases. The GLLU assists in a wide variety of cases and its involvement does not imply any person or business is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

• A man reported to the GLLU on Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. that he was being harassed by another man living in a home near the intersection of Third and T Streets N.W. The first man told police that he shares the home with other people and is in a dispute with the home’s owner. He also told police that he and the other residents were arguing among themselves, one man made homophobic remarks directed at him, and he now feels unsafe living in the same home as the man. Officers helped the man with safety planning and documented the incident as a “hate/bias motivated incident,” but made no criminal charges.

• Police were called early Sept. 23 to a home along the 700 block of Park Road, N.W., to respond to reports of a domestic disturbance. Officers determined the caller had assaulted his boyfriend and arrested him. The other man suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

• Police arrested Sept. 24 a man suspected of assaulting another man Sept. 1 with a knife. Alex Osmar Lopez-Morales, 21, of Washington, was charged with “assault with intent to kill” and arraigned in D.C. Superior Court on Sept. 25. According to an earlier report, the alleged victim told police he had met the suspect Sept. 1 at Meridian Hill Park and invited the suspect back to his residence. The victim also told police that at some point, the suspect attacked him with a knife, inflicting serious injuries, then fled. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.

• Police were called Sept. 24 at 10 p.m. to a restaurant along the 1600 block of 17th Street, N.W. to respond to reports of a disorderly customer. Officers determined the man was suffering from a mental illness and had failed to pay his bar tab. The man was taken home and arrangements were made for his family to pay the tab.

• A man reported to the GLLU on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. that he needed assistance resolving a landlord-tenant dispute at his property in Capitol Hill. The man told police that his tenant was violating a written lease by allowing a man to stay overnight on multiple occasions. Police told the man that the civil matter would have to be resolved through the D.C. Landlord-Tenant Court.

• A juvenile reported to the GLLU on Sept. 29 at 10:15 p.m. that he had seen a person he suspected had robbed him three weeks earlier. The juvenile told police that he saw the suspect on a Metro bus and exited the bus upon seeing the suspect. Police met the juvenile along the 4600 block of Hillside Road S.E. and attempted to locate the suspect, but were unable to find him. Police then took the juvenile to his destination.

• A man reported to the GLLU on Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. that he needed assistance retrieving his belongings from a former friend’s home along the 4400 block of C Street S.E. Officers accompanied the man to the home, but he was told that the belongings were not in his possession. Police advised the man to pursue civil action as the matter was not criminal.

• Police are working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to handle a man’s continued “harassing and threatening behavior” toward a person living in the Dupont Circle area. Officers have arrested the man “multiple times” and he “has served multiple sentences for charges” including “stalking, threats, violations of a Civil Protection Order and contempt of court.” Police have been familiar with the man since 2005, when they first investigated reports of domestic violence between him and his former partner.

Anyone who has been the victim of a crime or has knowledge of a crime is encouraged to contact the GLLU on its 24-hour pager at 1-877-495-5995. Visit the GLLU at www.gllu.org.
