Republican
vice
presidential
nominee
Sarah
Palin
this
week
said
that
homosexuality
is
a
choice
during
an
interview
with
CBS
News’
Katie
Couric.
“As
for
homosexuality,
I
am
not
going
to
judge
Americans
and
the
decisions
that
they
make
in
their
adult
personal
relationships,”
Palin
said.
“I
have
one
of
my
absolute
best
friends
for
the
last
30
years
happens
to
be
gay,
and
I
love
her
dearly.
And
she
is
not
my
‘gay
friend,’
she
is
one
of
my
best
friends,
who
happens
to
have
made
a
choice
that
isn’t
a
choice
I
would
have
made.
But
I
am
not
going
to
judge
people.”
Couric’s
question
arose
from
the
revelation
that
Palin’s
church
promotes
reparative
therapy
to
change
sexual
orientation,
a
concept
that
has
been
widely
discredited
by
medical
and
scientific
organizations.
Gay
rights
activists
pounced
on
the
remarks
and
said
they
were
evidence
that
Palin
is
captive
to
the
far
right
wing
of
her
party.
“John
McCain
chose
a
poor
running
mate,
but
he
did
not
choose
his
sexual
orientation,”
said
Jon
Hoadley,
executive
director
of
the
National
Stonewall
Democrats,
in
a
statement.
“For
Gov.
Palin
to
suggest
that
individuals
randomly
choose
their
sexual
orientation
based
on
nothing
but
a
whim
is
wrong
and
it
repeats
the
talking
points
of
the
anti-gay
special
interests
that
continue
to
control
the
McCain/Palin
campaign
and
the
Republican
Party.”
Palin
was
scheduled
to
debate
Democratic
vice
presidential
nominee
Joe
Biden
on
Thursday
night,
after
Blade
deadline.
