The D.C. police department’s Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit was recently involved in the following cases. The GLLU assists in a wide variety of cases and its involvement does not imply any person or business is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

• A woman reported to the GLLU on Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. that she and her girlfriend were the victims of an assault. The woman told police that she was concerned that her sexual orientation and that of her girlfriend would be used to discredit them should they testify. The women were referred to the Fairfax County Police Department’s Victim Services Unit.

• A man reported to police Nov. 6 at 10 p.m. that he was having an ongoing dispute with his boyfriend. The man told police that he was about to end the relationship and there were previous instances of violence between the two men, but he refused to provide sufficient details to document a criminal allegation. The man was told to obtain a temporary protection order.

• Police were called Nov. 8 at 1:30 a.m. to the intersection of Sixth and K streets, N.W., to respond to a reported prostitution-related complaint. Officers found “six to 10 transgender individuals walking in the area,” but saw no evidence of prostitution. No police action was taken, but information about the situation was passed along to the GLLU.

• Police were called Nov. 9 at 2 a.m. to the 3700 block of Minnesota Avenue, S.E., to respond to a reported unconscious person. Officers found a transgender woman at the scene who refused medical attention. The woman, who refused to identify herself or accept transportation, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• A woman reported to the GLLU on Nov. 10 that she had received a series of harassing phone calls at her home. The woman told police that beginning Oct. 4, she had been called “countless times by an unidentified male” who uses homophobic and profane language before disconnecting.

• Police were called Nov. 14 at 4 a.m. to an apartment along the 4200 block of Benning Road, S.E., to respond to a reported domestic dispute. Officers found two men who were in a relationship together engaged in a heated argument. There was no evidence of criminal activity.

• Police were called Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library to respond to a reported assault and robbery. Officers found a transgender woman who told police she was assaulted and robbed inside a library stairwell. The woman suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.

• A man reported to police Nov. 15 at midnight that his landlord was threatening him. The man told police that he and his boyfriend were engaged in a landlord-tenant dispute and the property owner had left a voicemail in which she “expressed homophobic beliefs and intimated the victim might fall victim to violence.”

• Police were called Nov. 15 at 2:45 a.m. to the intersection of Sixth and K streets, N.W., to respond to a reported prostitution-related complaint. Officers found about eight people, “all of whom appear to be members of the transgender community,” in the area. Police told the people to leave the area. Additional calls were received after police left the scene. Officers returned to the area at 3:15 a.m. and saw the same people at the scene.

Anyone who has been the victim of a crime or has knowledge of a crime is encouraged to contact the GLLU on its 24-hour pager at 1-877-495-5995. Visit the GLLU at www.gllu.org.
