The D.C. police department’s Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit was recently involved in the following cases. The GLLU assists in a wide variety of cases and its involvement does not imply any person or business is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

• Police were called Nov. 16 at 3 a.m. to an apartment along the 900 block of M Street, N.W., to respond to a reported erratic person. Officers found a 26-year-old man, who was accompanied by his boyfriend, showing signs of “an acute psychological episode.” The man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

• A transgender woman reported to police Nov. 16 at 11:30 a.m. that she had been attacked. The woman told police that on Oct. 31 at 8:30 a.m., in the 4600 block of Livingston Road, S.E., she had been in the park with friends when a man approached her and without provocation punched her. The woman described the person who punched her as a black man with a mustache and beard, weighing about 250 pounds, and about 5 foot 7 inches tall. The woman also described the man as in his 30s with short hair and a nickname of “Fats” or “Sulliver.”

• Police were called Nov. 17 at 3:30 a.m. to the 500 block of K Street, N.W., to respond to a reported prostitution-related complaint. Officers found about eight people, who “all appeared to be members of the transgender community,” in the area. The people left as officers arrived. Additional calls were received after police left the scene.

• Police were called Nov. 18 at 3 a.m. to the 2000 block of Connecticut Avenue, N.W., to respond to a reported erratic person. Officers found a 45-year-old man running naked in the street suffering injuries to his head and face. The man, who refused medical treatment, appeared under the influence of alcohol and drugs. An investigation revealed that the man had met a man earlier than evening at a local bar, went back to the man’s apartment and eventually engaged in drug use and consensual sexual activity. At some point, the man was attacked and fled the apartment to seek assistance. The man was unable to describe the suspect.

Anyone who has been the victim of a crime or has knowledge of a crime is encouraged to contact the GLLU on its 24-hour pager at 1-877-495-5995. Visit the GLLU at www.gllu.org.
