Ron Johnson, a D.C. native and resident of Arlington, Va., died Nov. 27 of throat cancer at George Washington University Hospital, according to a member of his church. He was 52.
Johnson worked for the U.S. Department of Justice in personnel security. He attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington. He came out in high school and was active in the gay community for many years, including volunteering with the Capital Pride parade. He was a participant and leader in Dignity/Washington at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Food & Friends, and served on the selection committee for Reel Affirmations, the gay film festival, for many years. He will be remembered for his unfaltering pride and his constant support of his friends and family.
A memorial service is scheduled for Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 1825 Connecticut Ave., N.W.
Johnson is survived by his partner, J.D. Walker of Washington; his sister, Gale Yoder of Springfield, Va.; two nieces, Karin Price of Centerville, Va., and Shannon Yoder of Springfield, Va.; his great niece, Morgan Price, and great nephew, Christian Price.
