poised to run against Schwartz in the general election, denied any involvement in the posting of the signs. Both candidates have said they favor same-sex marriage.
Wesley Williams, spokesperson for the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance, said the signs do not fall under the jurisdiction of his office because they do not directly call for people to vote against Schwartz.
Rick Rosendall, vice president of the Gay & Lesbian Activists Alliance in D.C., did not know who was responsible for posting the signs, but had disparaging words for the person behind the deed.
“I think that whoever is responsible is a weasel,” he said. “If you’re going to be that snarky, you should have the guts to sign your name.”
Rosendall said the signs did not sour the opinion of parade onlookers toward Schwartz. The Council member was greeted with a “warm reception” when she passed by 17th and P streets, he said.
