POLICELOG

Police log

Friday, June 27, 2008

In the past week, the GLLU responded to or assisted in the following cases:

• A man at a party on Grant Street, N.E., yelled verbal threats and homophobic epithets to police responding to a loud party call on Saturday about 10:30 p.m. The individual, whom police did not identify, was arrested but resisted. Police used pepper spray to bring the man under control. No injuries were reported.

• A gay man reported being assaulted by his boyfriend on Monday about 4:20 a.m. in the 200 block of Massachusetts Ave., N.W. He flagged down public safety officials at Georgetown University Law School who said the man had a minor scratch and torn shirt. The boyfriend, whom police did not identify, was arrested on Massachusetts Avenue without incident and was charged with assault.

• A man said he was called homophobic names and bumped at Yum’s Carryout at the intersection of 14th and P streets on June 19 about 2:15 a.m. No arrests were made as police could not corroborate the man’s claims.

• GLLU officers assisted with the arrest of a transgender person who was charged with “failure to appear” on Monday about 7 p.m.

• A home safety inspection was conducted on Sunday on Blagden Avenue, N.W. GLLU officers conducted the inspection.

• A man whom police did not identify was charged with driving while intoxicated on Sunday about 2 p.m. at the intersection of 18th and P streets, N.W. Police were alerted to the suspect by a man who’d been in a car accident with the suspect moments before. Police found the man under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and in possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage.

• A gay man told police on Sunday about 7 p.m. that his boyfriend had hired someone to kill him. GLLU officers conducted an investigation at the man’s house on the 1700 block of 9th Street, N.W. They determined that he suffered from mental illness and no threat was imminent.

• A gay Virginia man contacted GLLU officers on Tuesday with a request to help them locate his ex-boyfriend whom he believed was in Washington. No report was made because police did not determine that the alleged ex-boyfriend was in danger.

Anyone who has been the victim of a crime or has knowledge of a crime is encouraged to contact the GLLU on its 24-hour pager at 1-877-495-5995. Visit the GLLU online at www.gllu.org.
