Wall Street executives are rending their garments. The housing market has gone into a tailspin. Food prices have skyrocketed. And let’s not even talk about gas. The current economic woes beg the question: How can I afford to do anything anymore?
Luckily for people in the D.C. region, there are plenty of bargains in entertainment, nightlife, dining, shopping and even getaways that can help you save cash. Below are some of our favorites.

The Dupont Grille features 5 for 5 — $5 martinis and wines and $5 appetizers — weekdays from 5-7 p.m. Fridays during the summer they fire up the grill and barbecue, with $10 entrees and $5 sides. 1500 New Hampshire Ave., NW. www.dupontgrille.com.

Asia Nine features daily bento boxes, which run less than $15. There’s also a happy hour from 4:30-7 p.m. with half-price beer and wine and bar snacks, including edamame and gyoza, for under $5. Sister restaurants Skewers and Café Luna have a number of weekly specials: Skewers offers half-price wine by the bottle on Monday nights, while Café Luna offers half-price pizza on Sunday and Wednesday, half-price pasta on Monday, and half-price wine by the bottle on Tuesday. 1633 P St., NW. www.skewers-cafeluna.com.

The Park Hyatt Washington’s lounge menu offers Pork and Pinot on Wednesdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m. A generous slice of pork and sweet potato biscuit runs $8, as do other pork dishes, like glazed pork belly with white beans.
