The D.C. police department’s Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit was involved in the following cases this week. The GLLU assists in a wide variety of cases and its involvement does not imply any person or business is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

• A man reported to the GLLU on Aug. 1 that he was the victim of a sexual assault. The man told police the alleged assault occurred in the 1600 block of 17th Street N.W., and the male suspect was known to him. The matter was referred to the Criminal Investigations Division’s Sexual Assault Unit for investigation.

• A man living in Loudon County, Va., reported to the GLLU on Aug. 6 that his boyfriend was threatening and intimidating him. The man told police all alleged offenses occurred in Virginia, but he was uncomfortable disclosing his relationship to Virginia police. The GLLU referred the man to an outreach organization in Virginia and provided him with safety planning and other resources.

• Police were called Aug. 8 at 2:50 a.m. to an apartment in the 1200 block of 13th Street N.W. to respond to threats made to an animal. A man told police that his boyfriend had threatened to harm their shared cat. By the time officers arrived, the boyfriend had left the apartment and the man refused to provide enough information to substantiate a criminal act. Police said alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident.

• A man reported to the GLLU on Aug. 9 that he was the victim of a domestic violence assault. The man told police he was with a former boyfriend in the 1400 block of Alabama Avenue S.E. when the two began to argue and threatened him with a razor. Police said the man sustained minor injuries and an arrest warrant has been sought.

• A mental health care provider reported to the GLLU on Aug. 9 that a client in Southeast Washington had been threatened and assaulted by the client’s former boyfriend. Police said the client, a transgender woman, could not be convinced to cooperate with officers and refused to provide information needed to conduct an investigation.

• Police were called Aug. 10 at 4 a.m. to the 1400 block of 14th Street N.W. to respond to an assault. Police said upon arriving, officers found two people who had suffered minor injuries. Police said the two people told officers they had gotten into an argument with a group of men and that argument escalated into a physical altercation that included the use of “homophobic epithets.” By the time officers arrived, the men had left the scene and the two people were unable to provide a usable description. Police said alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident.
