Re: “Cindy McCain’s pearls” (blog post by Rebecca Armendariz, Sept. 4)

I literally wretch when I see this woman. I cannot stomach the thought of four years with Cindy McCain in the White House!

What a joke! The Republicans, led now by the McCains, a couple worth more than $100 million, are pretending to be populists? And the rubes of America are buying it! Cindy is wearing a $300,000 outfit — why can’t the Obama campaign make an issue of that?!?

Who cares how much her pearls are worth? Cindy McCain is an outstanding, caring human being. John McCain will be an outstanding President with Gov. Palin by his side.

Bashing victim’s injuries are rude awakening for D.C. gays

Re: “Bashing victim publishes photos of injuries” (washingtonblade.com, Sept. 4)

I’ve been jumped before, but it wasn’t gay related. What I learned is that incidents on the street are not fair fights. I got jumped by a group of teens with zero provocation. Now I carry a Tazer with me everywhere. Next time will be different.

This case is one more argument in favor of overturning D.C.’s gun ban. If more gays stood up for themselves, preferably while armed, more people would think twice before attacking us.

Scary. These pictures are very disturbing and a reminder that we’re not safe — even in our insulated little gay ghettos.

Gay or straight, it’s just not safe to walk around at 4 a.m. in any city, including Washington.

We wanted a woman in power just not this woman

Re: “‘Inclusive’ or divisive” (news, Sept. 5)

I have waited 50 years for a woman to gain access to the White House and this is what I might get? Canada, here I come.

GLBT Alaskans know that Sarah Palin is no friend. Palin only vetoed the legislation on same-sex domestic partner benefits because the attorney general informed her it was illegal legislation under the constitution and that she would be breaking the law by allowing it to become law. She strongly voiced her opposition to our domestic partner benefits and complained bitterly to the media about it.
She is opposed to gay rights. Palin is uninformed on international issues. She did not even do what many former Alaska governors have done to build trade relationships across the sea to Russia and the Pacific Rim nations. Palin is ignorant of national and international politics and a liability at the national level for gays and all citizens. Sure, I wanted a woman in the White House — but not just a pretty face. We wanted a woman of substance not this ninny!

Gov. Sarah Palin is not an ‘inclusive’ Republican

Re: “Log Cabin endorses McCain” (news, Sept. 5)

As if we don’t have enough evidence that Republicans are clueless, we now have Log Cabin Republicans President Patrick Sammon clumsily saying “Governor Palin is an inclusive Republican who will help Sen. McCain appeal to gay and lesbian voters.” How, by continuing to vote against our rights? Keep swimming upstream, Sammon.

Would Patrick Sammon be OK with McCain picking the next one, two or even three Supreme Court justices? I would hope not. We can kiss any gay rights advances goodbye if McCain is allowed to name a single person to the high court.

I don’t agree with supporting McCain, but it’s good to have a gay rights group that might actually have access to a McCain White House if he gets elected. HRC won’t get past the security guards of a Republican administration, so we need gay Republicans to apply pressure from within the party.

Like the rest of the Log Cabin Republicans, Patrick Sammon is content to feast on the crumbs from McCain's table. He justified their endorsement in part by arguing that McCain doesn't support the odious marriage amendment, but our own Kevin Naff positively demolished him on that point during a panel discussion on 360gay on Logo last week. As Kevin rightfully pointed out, McCain WILL support a marriage amendment should DOMA be overturned. McCain and Palin are bigots just like the rest of the Republican Party.
