It’s that time of year again — time to hear from you, dear readers, as you’ve voiced your opinions in our annual Blade readers “Best of Gay D.C.” awards, a Blade tradition since 2001.
Several of this year’s honorees are past winners. It wouldn’t be “Best Of” time, without a nod to Freddie’s, Phase One, JR.’s, Halo and others. Several past winners who haven’t made the list in recent years are making welcomed return appearances. Gay favorites like U.S. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton and drag legend Ella Fitzgerald are back this year after long absences. And there were a few surprises.
The one thing all these winners have in common? They’re either LGBT themselves or supportive of our community. Let’s continue to patronize these local favorites who work hard to bring color and passion to Washington’s thriving, eclectic gay community.
