The D.C. police department’s Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit was recently involved in the following cases. The GLLU assists in a wide variety of cases and its involvement does not imply any person or business is gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
• ASSAULT: A man reported to police March 29 at 8 p.m. that he was the victim of an assault. The man told police that he met the suspect, a man, inside a bar along the 1500 block of 17th Street, N.W. The two men eventually went to the victim’s apartment in the Logan Circle neighborhood and engaged in consensual sexual activity. At one point, the victim refused to engage in a specific sexual act, and the suspect forced the victim to comply. The victim was examined at a local hospital, but did not have any serious injuries. The case is being investigated.
• POLICE ASSISTANCE: A man requested police assistance March 28 at 3:30 a.m. regarding a situation concerning his ex-boyfriend. The man told police that his ex-boyfriend was “advertising as a male prostitute in Baltimore,” but not disclosing that he is HIV positive. Police forwarded the information to the Baltimore City Police Department’s Gay & Lesbian Liaison officer for investigation.
• HARASSMENT: A woman reported to police March 27 at 4:30 a.m. that she was concerned about “officers harassing” a transgender person. The woman told police that officers had visited the person’s home along the 5200 block of Third Street, N.W., four times in attempts to locate the person. The woman told police the person no longer lives at the address. Police forwarded the information to the Warrant Squad.
• BURGLARY: Police were called March 27 at 5:30 a.m. to a home along the 600 block of Irving Street to respond to a reported burglary. The victim told police that he had met the suspect at a business along the 3500 block of Georgia Avenue, N.W., and allowed the suspect to return with him to his home to engage in sexual activity. A dispute arose over payment and the victim ordered the suspect to leave his home. The victim said the suspect returned with a knife, kicked in the door, robbed him of his cash and fled. The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s, wearing all black clothing. The victim was not injured.
• POLICE ASSISTANCE: A man requested police assistance March 26 at 3 p.m. regarding possible threats. The man told police that “he was threatened by several juveniles” inside a business near the Metro station at Seventh and S streets, N.W., and he believed he was going to be robbed. The man also told police he heard the juveniles using homophobic language. The juveniles were stopped and it was determined no crime had occurred.
• THREAT: An attorney representing a local LGBT rights organization reported to police March 24 that “possible hate/bias threats” had been made on the Internet. An investigation by police and the FBI determined no threats had been made. During the investigation, police learned an employee of the organization was being harassed by e-mail. Police are investigating the situation.
• ASSAULT: Police were called March 22 at 2:30 a.m. to Howard University Hospital to respond to a reported domestic assault. The victim told police that his boyfriend assaulted him inside their shared home near the intersection of Fourth and V streets, N.W. The victim received serious injuries, including a laceration to his head.
• ASSAULT: Police were called March 21 at 10:30 p.m. to Gallaudet University to respond to a reported domestic assault. Police were unable to determine which of the two men involved was the aggressor and both men were arrested. Both men received minor injuries.
• ASSAULT: Police were called March 18 at 11 p.m. to the 7700 block of Georgia Avenue to respond to a reported assault. The victim, a transgender woman, told police she got into an argument with her former boyfriend, who hit her and stole her cell phone. The woman received minor injuries.
• ROBBERY: Two men reported to police March 15 at 2 a.m. that they were victims of a robbery. The men told police that during the robbery, one of the suspects referred to one of the victims using a homophobic epithet. The victims received minor injuries.
