Gay author Sedaris to sign books

Gay author and humorist David Sedaris will read selections from his sixth book of essays called “When You Are Engulfed in Flames” on June 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Borders in Bailey’s Crossroads, Va. The title refers to the name of a chapter in a book he found in a hotel room in Japan, where he spent three months on a smoking cessation course. Sedaris will also sign copies of his book, which includes chapters on trying to make coffee with no water, buying drugs in rural North Carolina, blocking a window with LP covers, quitting smoking and more. The book was released last summer. The store is located at 5871 Crossroads Center Way in Bailey’s Crossroads, Va. Call 703-998-0404 for more information.

Lesbian folk/rock group to play Iota

Blame Sally, a San Francisco-based folk/rock group comprised of four middle-aged women, will play songs from their new album “Night of 1,000 Stars” Saturday at Arlington’s Iota Club & Café. Blame Sally is Jeri Jones, Monica Pasqual, Pam Delgado and Renee Harcourt. The latter three are lesbians. The members have dabbled in many fields but found themselves offered a five year/three-album recording contract last year with Bay Area Opus Music Ventures, which allowed them to become full-time musicians. Blame Sally draws on personal and topical issues to fuel their songwriting and performing. The San Francisco Chronicle says the band “recalls the artful romanticism of Jane Siberry, the rich folk harmonies of the Indigo Girls and the percolating soulfulness of Joy of Cooking.” Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door. Visit www.blamesally.com for more information about the band. Iota is located at 2832 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, Va.
