The Senate will hold hearings on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act this morning. The long-suffering measure -- an early and more expansive version of which was introduced in 1974 -- would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace.
Among the witnesses scheduled to testify this morning are:
Tom Perez, Assistant Attorney General, Civil Rights Division, United States Department of Justice
Helen Norton, Associate Professor of Law, University of Colorado School of Law
Lisa Madigan, Attorney General, State of Illinois
Virginia Nguyen, Diversity & Inclusion Team Member, Nike, Inc.
Mike Carney, police officer, City of Springfield Police Department, Springfield, Mass.
Craig Parshall, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, National Religious Broadcasters Association
Camille Olson, partner, Seyfarth Shaw, LLP, Chicago, IL
Beginning at 10 a.m., you can watch the hearings live here.
The Blade has a reporter on the Hill covering today's hearings; check back for updates and a full report later in the day.
