The legal battle over gay marriage continues today in a federal courtroom in San Francisco.
A hearing in U.S. District Court is set for this morning (10:00) seeking to overturn Proposition 8.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Vaughn Walker has indicated he will
likely deny a request for preliminary injunction lifting the gay
marriage ban, but will probably agree to fast-track the case directly
to trial.
Governor Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown are both named as defendants in the lawsuit.
They have argued against lifting the ban, saying that allowing
same-sex marriages to resume would create confusion for couples and for
the state.
Proposition 8 was placed on the November ballot to overturn a
California Supreme Court decision earlier in the year that legalized
gay marriage.
